The
National Fruit Flavor Company was formed in 1917 by Ira Harkey and Virgil
Browne in New Orleans. By 1921, the company had achieved
national and international distribution, due primarily to the
success of its flagship carbonated beverage product, Orange
Squeeze, which was sold to independent bottlers throughout the
United States and in five foreign countries.
In 1961, Adam
Gambel purchased the company from Ira Harkey and expanded its
products and services. In addition to the beverage
flavors, National Fruit Flavor successfully developed flavors
and concentrates for the food service, dairy, bakery and vitamin
supplement industries.

The company,
still owned and operated by the Gambel family,
currently occupies a 42,000 square foot facility (above) on 4 acres in
Elmwood Business Park, located halfway between Downtown New
Orleans and the New Orleans International Airport.
